About Elissa Cutter

Elissa Cutter (she/her) is a feminist historical theologian whose research explores how rediscovering women’s voices from history explicitly as theological voices can help us understand women’s roles in the Catholic Church toady. She is also interested in questions about the methodological foundations for doing feminist historical theology. She pursues these questions through the lens of the nuns of the convent of Port-Royal in seventeenth-century France. She received her PhD in Theological Studies, with a focus on historical theology and modern Christianity, from Saint Louis University. She is currently Assistant Professor of Religious Studies & Theology at Georgian Court University, a Mercy institution in New Jersey. There, she regularly teaches courses about the Christian tradition, ethics, Catholic social teaching, and theological method. In teaching, she helps students reflect on and make connections between what they are studying and their own experiences. Because of this she is a proponent of service-learning pedagogy. She is also a regular contributor and co-editor to the blog WIT: Women in Theology (https://womenintheology.org/).
