About Cam Harder

Cam Harder has served as pastor and seminary professor for 40 years in western Canada. Cam’s passion, and most of his teaching, has focused on building bridges between faith and world, the sciences and theology. He has done research on the role of religion in farm bankruptcy, on faith in the oilpatch, on rebuilding the spirit of rural communities, and on “out-of-the-box” religious ministries. Through large grants awarded by the Wabash Center in Indiana and Rural Alberta’s Development Fund, he founded CiRCLe M— a non-profit that helps faith groups make vital contributions to the development of their wider community. He also helped found several other non-profits related to rural ministry, clinical pastoral education, Habitat for Humanity, and transition for prisoners into the community. And he has worked with indigenous groups to build rural-first nations friendships and a truth and reconciliation event. Cam is author of “Discovering the Other: Asset-based Approaches to Building Community Together,” and "Tough Questions, Honest Answers: Faith and Religion for 21st Century Explorers" (Fortress Press, out May 5, 2020) as well as numerous articles and book chapters. He is the grateful husband of Dory and father of Joel, Kristel and Ryan with their attendant partners and grandchildren.
