About Brett J Esaki

Brett J. Esaki, Visiting Assistant Professor of Religious Studies, University of Arizona (previously Assistant Professor at Georgia State University). Brett just moved to Arizona with his wife Kristy, a 1-year old, and two cats! He is happy to be back in the Southwest where he went to college and can find many green chile dishes. His work specializes in intersections of Asian Americans and African Americans in areas of spirituality, popular culture, and comprehensive sustainability, and he holds a PhD from UC Santa Barbara and an MA from the University of South Carolina. He is the author of Enfolding Silence: The Transformation of Japanese American Religion and Art under Oppression (Oxford, 2016) and is currently researching intersections of radical politics and spirituality for Asian Americans. He is very busy with the new position and active baby, but occasionally checks Twitter (twitter.com/1StepBeyond1).
